Android word actually comes from the Greek " André " which means the men and the suffix " - eides " meaning "of the species; resembles " ( from " eidos ": species). Google used this name for the operating system on mobile phones.
Around September 2007 a study reported that Google filed a patent application phones. The first phones using the Android operating system is T -Mobile G1 which was released on 23 September 2008. On November 5, 2007, formed the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 34 companies comprising hardware, software and telecommunications ( including Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, T - Mobile, Texas Instruments, Broadcom Corporation, LG ( Optimus One ), Marvell Technology Group, Samsung Electronics, Sprint Nextel, and Nvidia ) with the goal of establishing open standards for mobile devices.
As the formation of the Open Handset Alliance, OHA announced their first product, Android is a platform for mobile devices which is a modified Linux kernel version 2.6.
On December 9, 2008, announced 14 new members who join the Android Project is PacketVideo, ARM Holdings, Atheros Communications, Asustek Computer Inc., Garmin Ltd., Softbank, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba Corp., and Vodafone Group Plc.
